- 13 January - 2021 Italian government crisis: Former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi withdrew the Italia Viva party from the governing coalition.[1]

- 23 May - A cable car in Mottarone falls near the summit, killing at least 12 people.[2][3] Two children, aged 5 and 9, are taken to a hospital in Turin.[2]

Former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on Wednesday withdrew his party from Italy’s coalition government, plunging the country into political chaos.
