Fiona O'Donnell (née Kenny; born 27 January 1960) is a Scottish Labour Party politician and who was the Member of Parliament for East Lothian from 2010 to 2015. In the 2017 United Kingdom local elections, she was elected to East Lothian Council.

Early life

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada[1] but raised in Fort William, Scotland, since the age of five, she was educated at Lochaber High School and the University of Glasgow.

Political career

O'Donnell succeeded Anne Moffat, who was deselected by her Constituency Labour Party in January 2010.[2][3] and retained the East Lothian seat with a majority of 12,258 votes.[4]

She was the Shadow Minister for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs between 2011-2012[4]

O'Donnell sat on various select committees including the International Development Select Committee, the Standards and Privileges Committee, the Committees on Arms Export Controls and the Scottish Affairs Committee[4]

In the last week of the 2010-2015 Parliament, O'Donnell introduced a proposed Bill on improving tax transparency under the Ten Minute Rule[5] O'Donnell lost her seat in 2015 to George Kerevan of the Scottish National Party.

She, in 2016, contested the Conservative seat of Galloway and West Dumfries where she finished in third place with 4,876 votes (14.6%) behind Finlay Carson and Aileen McLeod.

In November 2016, she was selected as a candidate for the East Lothian Council election due to take place in May 2017.[6] She went on to win the seat.
