The Lines of Torres Vedras were lines of forts and redoubts built in secrecy by Anglo-Portuguese forces in 1809-10 to defend Lisbon during the Peninsular War. There were three lines connecting the Atlantic with the River Tagus, amounting to over 150 defensive positions.
